Hope at the Fairy Tale Ball

Cinderella and Prince Charming; Belle and the Beast; Elena; they all traveled from their castles to Milestone last Friday, bringing joy and celebrating life.

Every year, we host a Fairy Tale Ball for HopeKids. And, every year, we see families experience the comfort of a night set up just for them: families with children who have life-threatening illnesses.

At the Ball, the kids can just be kids.

It’s hard to worry about anything when you’re dancing with Moana and Maui, listening to Snow White read a book, and singing with Anna and Elsa. It’s even harder to worry when you’re taking a ride in Cinderella’s horse-drawn carriage.

Laura Hatton and her family of six came to Milestone for the Ball and experienced all the joy that the princesses and princes could bring.

“We weren’t worried about who was sick; we weren’t worried about anything. We were just happy.” -Laura

They needed this moment in time, especially for Benjamin. Benjamin is Laura’s seven-year-old son, who requires around-the-clock medical care. He’s faced many challenges and has beaten the odds time and time again.

What he has gone through has brought the entire Hatton family closer to God.

“It’s so easy to look at the circumstances and think it’s too much, it’s overwhelming, but God shows us He is there. He is present with us at all times, of that I’m sure. I got to see a glimmer of God’s hope at the Fairy Tale Ball.” -Laura

When we are going through challenges, sometimes it’s the little moments of happiness that change everything–moments like when Benjamin and his cousin danced with Cinderella at the Ball. It’s in times like these that a glimmer of God’s hope is experienced, and lives can be changed in that instant.

That’s the kind of impact we love to see.
